Tough one for the Texans and their faithful. 

-Brett Favre continued to amaze the rest of the public (I sit on the sidelines and shake my head at him) by adding to his legend with a last-second game-winning heave to Greg Lewis. Favre displayed incredible arm strength -- something he rarely did last season with my Jets -- firing the ball deep down the field under intense pressure. Lewis did an outstanding job maintaining his footwork and coming down with the backbreaking reception. If the Texans' fans had a rough day today, the 49er faithful suffered through the Apocalypse.

1. Brett Favre (NYJ)—First, it was the retirement/unretirement story. Then it was the big trade/ugly departure headline. Next, it was the Rodgers/Favre season comparison. Subsequently, it was the Romo/Favre injury conversation. Finally, it was the Millen/Favre controversy. Now, it’s the Favre turnover complaint. Is anyone else tired of this?

J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!  Keep on wearing those ugly uniforms as long as you win.  Brett Favre is looking better each week in this offense and the Jets schedule is soft.  Oakland does have scary raw talent in JaMarcus Russell and Darren McFadden, but they haven't quite adapted to the NFL yet.  Brett leads the Jets to a win on the West coast.

Despite the fact that Brett Favre's arrival in New York instantly makes the Jets a better team and makes them relevant, at least for a few days, it does come at a considerable price. No, I'm not talking about the conditional draft pick the team gave up to get Favre, which is fair compensation for a future Hall-of-Famer. Rather, I'm talking about the release of incumbant quarterback Chad Pennington.

A week ago I posted that I thought the Jets had no shot of getting Brett Favre. Well a lot has changed in a week, as now the Jets are apparently one of two teams given permission to speak with Favre. The Jets have not yet done so, but they have talked to his agent Bus Cook and seem to be holding out in case the Packers drop their asking price. I agree with this strategy, as I would not give up a first or second round draft pick (which Green Bay is asking for) for a player who may only play for a year or two more. But if Green Bay gets so desperate that they are willing to accept a third round pick, even a conditional one that can become a second rounder if Favre leads the Jets to the playoffs, I would pull the trigger.

Of course the main issue as the Jets start training camp this week is who should be the starting quarterback- veteran Chad Pennington, youngster Kellen Clemens, or maybe even a certain former Packer who is coming out of retirement. I actually think Favre could be a good fit for this team, as Clemens could learn behind someone with Super Bowls on his resume and who has comparable arm strength. It would be a distraction, but that didn't really hurt the Packers last year, did it? But it is a moot point, since there is no way Favre would come to a team that was 4-12 last year and has to compete with the Patriots, Colts, and Chargers just to get to the Super Bowl.

Others wanted to dub the Patriots’ pursuit of perfection as the ultimate subplot to the season. I, however, cannot think of a bigger story, a more compelling tale of human triumph, than that of Everett.
