Bill Belichick

27 September 2009

(I've also posted this on my blog at FanNation.com).

It's been an interesting NFL Sunday thus far, so I had the urge to get my two cents in on the day's events. First thing that comes to my mind, it's going right into this post...

Brady did it to Bledsoe, so it was only a matter of time. Speaking of similarities, I see Bill Belichick standing behind Matt Cassel rubbing his hands together and laughing maniacally like a mad scientist. This is a formula. And this is what

           Each week, on Friday, I will look into my (never wrong, just misinformed) crystal ball and give my predictions for that weekend games.  I will always prognosticate on the Eagles and Cowboys games and then pick two more games of interest (to me, that is, not necessarily to you).  Keep in mind, that this is for entertainment purposes only, and that I do not endorse any sort of legal or illegal gambling.  That being said…let’s see what’s in my crystal ball!

           Yesterday, the Cowboys got their collective butts kicked at the Meadowlands by the G-Men.  There is plenty of blame to go around for sure.  But, did we not expect this?  Wasn’t it obvious (it was to me… read more here) that the ‘Boys had no shot at winning this game?  Everyone knew it…the coaches…even the players!

The crystal ball was one up and three down for the week.  That puts me 6 games under .500 for the season…not good…more like awful!  The crystal ball was told it was going to be on a short leash…now it’s getting the hook.  Hey…if head coaches can be fired in mid-season…well…so can the crystal ball!  I will have a new crystal ball for next week…we’ll see if it can do a better job prognosticating than its predecessor?  Let’s take a look back and see what happened this past week:

          The crystal ball was two up and two down for the week.  Even though that is an improvement, it still doesn’t cut it!  Good thing this is for entertainment purposes only…or I would be in the poor house!  Let’s take a look back and see what happened:

One – have a Coach that is considered top 10 in the league like Bill Belichick, Dick Vermeil, Bill Parcells, Tony Dungy, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Walsh, etc. Two - have a quarterback that is in the top 5 in the league – Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Kurt Warner, Steve Young, Troy Aikman, Joe Montana, etc. Three - have a top 5, dominating defense.-the Bucanneers, the Ravens, the Steelers. Now, if you have two or three of these things then you are well on your way. If you don’t have any, well – you get better on defense, get a better quarterback, and/or get a better coach. Why do you think that the league was so engaged in the Bret Farve saga that ratings even went down on “As the World Turns” during the summer?  Or why did the Kansas City Chiefs take a flyer on often injured Joe Montana (oh yeah-they made it to the playoffs didn’t they). Why do you think that people like Parcells and Bill Cowher, and retreads like Joe Gibbs and Dick Vermeil are courted like Queen Guinevere in a short skirt? This is how you create the culture that other franchises have and the Houston Texans don’t.

vis fired Lane Kiffin.  Al Davis is the “Village Idiot”!

*Al Davis accused Bill Belichick and the Patriots of “tampering” with Randy Moss prior to their trade for a 4th round pick last year.  Davis is still the “Village Idiot” and the Patriots and Belichick are still CHEATERS!

nbsp;

           Bill Belichick, Head Coach of the New England Patriots, was accused by Al Davis of “tampering” with Randy Moss prior to their trade a year ago.  The Raiders received a 4th round pick as compensation in the deal.  Davis alleges that the Patriots had a secret workout with Moss prior to the negotiations, which would violate NFL rules.  Bill (here’s a surprise) denies the accusation.

Tom Brady is cocky, Randy Moss is cool as a cucumber, and Bill Belichick can do nothing but gush about his starting quarterback’s talent and intelligence. Just one big love-in for the Pats. However, the Giants know they’re expected to lose. While the Patriots bask in the glow of adoration and expectation, the G-Men are just focusing on the game. Sure, Plaxico Burress has gone on the record predicting a score, but for the most part, all the Giants can talk about is that they didn’t come this far just to be content with winning the NFC. They came to win a championship. This mentality is important to note when you think back to the NBA Finals last year. The Cavaliers celebrated so triumphantly after defeating the Pistons in the Eastern Conference Finals that one could tell that they hadn’t hoped to go any further. Not to say that any single player didn’t want to beat the Spurs, but it was more of a contentment; they never dreamed that they could make it as far as they did, so as a result, their emotional win over Detroit led to a release of adrenaline and sigh of relief rather than inspiring a bigger hunger to tackle the next feat. In New York’s win over Green Bay two weeks ago, you didn’t get the sense that they were in awe or disbelief that they pulled off the victory. I got the impression that they knew all along where they were headed, so the NFC title was an exciting accomplishment, but just another step in their season.

Finally, a week off affords Bill Belichick the luxury of an extra seven days' worth of preparation. Truly a master of football strategy, and having already played the Giants less than a month ago, Belichick can use this extra time to work an airtight strategy for success.
