It might seem crazy to believe that the BEST player in the 2008 draft, Darren McFadden, might be wearing a New York Jets uniform by the time the NFL regular season rolls around or is it? Let's take a closer look at the five teams currently drafting ahead of Gang Green this NFL draft and their current roster situations.
1. Miami Dolphins (Is John Beck really their franchise QB, hello Matt Ryan and your huge payday, I'll predict another Alex Smith here.)
2. St. Louis Rams (Steven Jackson)
3. Atlanta Falcons (Believe it or not, the Falcons RB tandem might be the strength of this team)
4. Oakland Raiders (Just signed Justin Fargas, Lamont Jordan still under contract)
5. Kansas City Chiefs (Larry Johnson)
Mark it down, if the current draft order stays as is the New York Jets will be selecting Darren McFadden with the #6 overall selection in the 2008 draft! Or will they?
Will Mike Tannenbaum and Eric Mangini think that their running back situation with Thomas Jones and Leon Washington is already strong enough to make this team a playoff contender if they could get some help at another position? Here is a piece of advice for the general management: Make a call to the Minnesota Vikings and ask them if adding Adrian Peterson in last year's draft to their already crowded backfield with Chester Taylor paid instant dividends? I mean this team almost made the playoffs with a guy named Tavaris Jackson as QB!
This is an absolute no-brainer decision if McFadden is on the board at this point in the draft. The Jets have no play-makers on the offensive end and that is exactly what McFadden is. Not only will he help a struggling offense, but he should be able to alleviate some of the pressure Kellen Clemens will feel next year. Let's hope the New York Jets make the right decision in the "War Room" on draft day and steal the best player in the draft and actually give Jets fans something to look forward to in 2008.
