J. E. T. S. Jets! Jets!! Jets!!!

So the 2008/2009 football season starts Sunday 9/7 at 1pm for Gang Green!  This year we’ll be fielding an offense led by a guaranteed first ballot hall of fame candidate in Brett Favre, a defense that struggled last year but is expected to improve with the addition of Kris Jenkins in the middle of the defensive line and special teams with the return specialist Leon Washington.  We were 4-12 last season but there will be a huge difference this season.  The last time the N.Y. Jets was 4-12 (2005) we followed it up with a 10-6 (2006) season and a trip to the post season.  So Fireman Ed, look forward to leading the Jet faithful in war chant come January 2009.

Will Favre be a big deal?  You bet!  Understand that Favre is coming off of his third best season of his 17 year career in the NFL in 2007.  He posted a 95.7 QB rating last year which landed him 6th in the NFL, 4155 yards which landed him 4th in the NFL and 28 TD’s which landed him tied for 6th in the NFL not to mention completing 66.5% of all his passes.  People lie, numbers don’t.  This guy can play.  His confidence is at an all-time high after taking the Pack one step away from the Super Bowl last year.  How grand would taking that extra step be this year?

The NY Jets improve their defense.  With the addition of Kris Jenkins to the defensive line, the Jets add a 3 time pro bowler and 2 time first-team all-pro.  In 2007 with the Carolina Panthers Jenkins recorded 30 tackles and 2.5 sacks.  He will be looking to return to the Pro Bowl as a starter for the Jets.  Also we’ve acquired Calvin Pace, LB from the Arizona Cardinals.  Calvin is coming off of his best season of his short 5 year career with 98 tackles and 6.5 sacks in 2007.  Calvin and Kris are two reasons why the Jets will be better on the defensive side of the ball.  Defense wins games!

How about Neon Leon?  Leon Washington was one of the top 10 kick return players in the league last year.  He exploded for 3 kick return TD’s including the 98 yard kick return for a touchdown.  In this, his third year in the league he will look to continue as a contributing force for the NY Jets.

Other notable additions via trade include Alan Faneca, G, Pittsburg Steelers; Tony Richardson, FB, Minnesota Vikings; Damien Woody, T, Detroit Lions; and Favre’s favorite Bubba Franks, TE, Green Bay Packers.  Jet’s fans hold on to your socks.  This is panning out to be one for the record books!
